Salt Lake City (Vereinigte Staaten), 26.06.2010 – Der zum Tode verurteilte Murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner on 18 June clock at 0:20 local time (08:20 GMT Clock) executed. The execution was carried out by firing squad. Gardner was the first man on in the United States since John Albert Taylor 26th January 1996, executed by firing squad. The state had amended its legislation in 2004 and made the execution by lethal injection authentic. A special welcome it but offenders whose convictions before the law was amended in August 2004, to opt for a shot.
Gardner had already been convicted in 1985 final, after the attorney Michael Burdell had shot on the run from the courtroom. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hielt er sich im Gericht als Angeklagter auf, weil wegen eines zuvor verübten Mordes an Melvyn Otterstrom im Jahr 1984 gegen ihn verhandelt wurde. Als Grund für seine Entscheidung hatte Gardener angegeben, er wolle erschossen werden, weil er mit Schusswaffen gemordet hätte. Unmittelbar vor der Erschießung wurde Gardner gefragt, ob er noch etwas sagen wolle, und er antwortete: „Das tue ich nicht. Nein.“
Das Erschießungskommando in einem Gefängnis in Draper, einem Vorort von Salt Lake City, bestand aus fünf Schützen. Sie wurden nicht darüber informiert, ob die jeweilige Waffe scharf geladen war oder mit einem Blindgänger, sodass keiner von ihnen weiß, wer die tödliche Bullet has been fired. The shooting took place on command, as was loudly counted down from five - on reaching the number two.
